ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Friday dispatched a ninth consignment of relief goods for Palestinians in Gaza, the country’s disaster management authority said in a statement.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) stated that, in collaboration with the Alkhidmat Foundation, it dispatched the consignment of relief goods for Gaza, where the IPC, which analyzes food insecurity and malnutrition data, warned that famine was imminent.

The relief package contained 300 tons of essentials, including tents, tarpaulins, blankets, surgical/medical supplies, dry food items, and other essential items. The batch was dispatched from Karachi to Aqaba Airport, Jordan, after which the supplies were sent to their final destination.

Officers from the NDMA and representatives of the Alkhidmat Foundation attended the departure ceremony in Karachi.

The NDMA said that until now, a total of 1000 tons of humanitarian aid have been sent to the people of Palestine since Israel’s war on Gaza kicked off in October last year.

The South Asian country, which does not have diplomatic ties with Israel, has repeatedly condemned the relentless Israeli ground and air strikes in Palestinian territories and called for an immediate ceasefire.

The IPC warned that with 1.1 million people, about half of Gaza’s population, expected to experience catastrophic food insecurity in the Gaza Strip due to Israeli continuous attacks and destruction of orchards, vegetables and field crops in the Palestinian enclave.

More than half of Gaza’s cultivated land, crucial for feeding the war-hit Palestinian territory’s hungry population, has been damaged by conflict, according to satellite images evaluated by the United Nations.

The data shows an increase in the destruction of orchards, vegetables and field crops in the Palestinian enclave, where hunger is on the rise after eight months of Israeli bombardment.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that many people in Gaza are facing famine-like conditions and catastrophic hunger.

According to Gaza health authorities, more than 37,232 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed in the eight months of Israel’s relentless bombardment.

The bombardment also caused mass destruction and cut off routes for humanitarian assistance.

Today, the Israeli military continued relentless bombardment in various parts of Gaza as ceasefire talks between Israel and Palestinian movement Hamas failed to progress. Meanwhile, tensions also surged on Israel’s northern border with Lebanon.
