ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari has reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to protecting children and young people from the harms of tobacco and nicotine use, saying sustained national and global efforts are needed to curb rising addiction risks.
In his message on World No Tobacco Day, the President highlighted that early exposure to nicotine significantly increases the likelihood of lifelong dependence and long-term health complications.

He said the tobacco and nicotine industry continues to adapt its products and marketing strategies to attract younger audiences, making youth protection a central public health priority.
The President called for strengthened preventive frameworks, stricter enforcement of tobacco control regulations, and aggressive public awareness campaigns to reduce exposure among vulnerable groups.
He stressed that safeguarding future generations requires coordinated action across government institutions, health authorities, civil society, and international partners.
“Children and young people remain particularly vulnerable.
