LAHORE: Pakistan have been fined five per cent of their players’ match fees for maintaining a slow over-rate during their thrilling three-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the ODI tri-series final at Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the sanction on Monday, confirming that Pakistan were found to be one over short after time allowances were taken into consideration by match referee Jeff Crowe of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel.

Pakistan captain Shaheen Shah Afridi pleaded guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, avoiding the need for a formal hearing.

The penalty was imposed under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which provides for a fine of five per cent of a player’s match fee for every over a team fails to bowl within the allotted time.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Wayne Knights, third umpire Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid and fourth umpire Rashid Riaz.
