ISLAMABAD/LONDON: The official emblem for Britain’s King Charles’ coronation celebrations in May was revealed on Friday, with the design paying tribute to the king’s many years of environmental campaigning.
The emblem incorporates flora from all four nations that comprise the United Kingdom, including the rose of England, the daffodil of Wales, the thistle of Scotland, and the shamrock of Northern Ireland, as a tribute to Charles’ love of nature, according to Buckingham Palace.
It was also intended to use the Union flag’s red, white, and blue colours.
King Charles’ love of the planet
The designer Jony Ive said that King Charles’ love of the planet, and nature and his deep concern for the natural world inspired the design. The emblem evokes the joyful optimism of spring and marks the start of the United Kingdom’s new Carolean era.”
When his mother, Queen Elizabeth, died in September, Charles became king of 15 realms, including Canada, New Zealand, and Australia. Still, his official crowning will take place on May 6 at London’s Westminster Abbey, following a 1,000-year tradition.
Traditional processions, street parties, a music concert at Windsor Castle, light shows, and community volunteering will accompany the service, according to Buckingham Palace.
