ISLAMABAD: Following Iran’s execution of a British-Iranian dual-national, London has decided to rethink its support of the Iranian nuclear deal. Western governments strongly condemned the execution.

It was not when or where 61-year-old Alireza Akbari was executed, however, he had been convicted of “corruption on earth” and by passing on “intelligence” thus “harming the external and internal security” of Iran.

Following the hanged, the already boiling tensions between the West and Iran, have escalated enormously. The crackdown by Tehran on protestors following the in-custody death of Mahsa Amini, along with its support for Russia in the ongoing Ukraine conflict have already infuriated the West.

Britain has been an important player in negotiations on reviving the nuclear deal.

UK to rethink involvement in Iran N-deal revival

According to the Sunday Telegraph, senior British government sources said that since the negotiations began many of the ground realities had changed, and now London was reviewing its options regarding future involvement in the deal’s revival.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak said that he execution appalled him.

Sunak termed the incident a “callous and cowardly act”.
