ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Jeddah on Wednesday, reaffirming Islamabad’s support for the Kingdom while discussing regional security and ongoing efforts to advance dialogue between the United States and Iran.
Pakistan Prime Minister’s Office said the two leaders reaffirmed close bilateral ties, explored ways to expand cooperation across key sectors, and reviewed ongoing efforts to support dialogue between the United States and Iran.
According to the statement, the meeting, which lasted almost two hours, was focused on strengthening economic collaboration, enhancing defence cooperation, and exchanging views on the evolving regional security situation.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, who was present during the talks, said the engagement was marked by “warmth and brotherhood”, reflecting the longstanding relationship between the two countries.

Sharif, accompanied by a high-level delegation, was received upon arrival by senior Saudi officials, including Prince Saud bin Mushaal bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Governor of the Makkah Region.
The visit comes as part of a broader regional tour from April 15 to 18, which also includes Qatar and Turkiye. In Turkiye, Sharif is expected to participate in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, where he will outline Pakistan’s position on key global and regional issues and hold meetings with world leaders, including President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Sharif described the meeting as an “honour” and referred to the Crown Prince as his “dear brother”, underscoring the close relationship between the two countries.

The Prime Minister said he conveyed Pakistan’s “unwavering solidarity” with Saudi Arabia and praised the Kingdom’s “patience and restraint” amid ongoing regional tensions.
Sharif also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in the region, stating that he shared “recent developments related to Pakistan’s peace efforts which helped facilitate the U.S.–Iran ceasefire and historic peace talks in Islamabad.”

The Prime Minister’s office stated that the Prime Minister expressed full solidarity and support for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the wake of the recent regional escalation.
He conveyed deep condolences over the loss of precious lives and said the people of Pakistan stand shoulder to shoulder with their Saudi brethren.
He reiterated Islamabad’s commitment to encouraging dialogue between Washington and Tehran aimed at achieving “lasting peace and stability in the region”, and expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia’s support for Pakistan’s peace initiatives.
“I reiterated Pakistan’s firm commitment to advancing its efforts to encourage both the U.S. and Iran towards an agreement aimed at lasting peace and stability in the region,” Sharif wrote on X.
The prime minister further acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s continued economic support, while emphasising the “unique defence and security relationship” between the two countries. Both sides, he said, reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening their longstanding partnership.
The Prime Minister appreciated the exemplary patience and restraint shown by the Kingdom, led by His Royal Highness the Crown Prince, whose leadership in the current crisis was a source of strength for all peace-loving people in the Kingdom and beyond.
Prime Minister Sharif’s office said His Royal Highness the Crown Prince appreciated the constructive role of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in the peace process.

While exchanging views on bilateral issues, the Prime Minister expressed his sincere appreciation for His Royal Highness the Crown Prince for the Kingdom’s consistent support for Pakistan’s economic stability.
The Prime Minister also highlighted that Pakistan and the Kingdom enjoyed a unique relationship as they were both strategic defense partners under the Pakistan- Saudi Arabia Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement.
Both leaders expressed their shared commitment to continuing close cooperation on matters of mutual interest.
Saudi Arabia remains one of Pakistan’s key economic partners, providing financial assistance and energy supplies, while the two countries maintain close defence cooperation under a longstanding strategic framework.
