ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to celebrate its 78th Independence Day on 14th August with unprecedented fervour this year, themed around ‘Marka-e-Haq’- a concept reflecting the nation’s resilience and unity.
The celebrations come on the heels of a successful military operation against India. The independence activities are in full swing countrywide, while the federal capital Islamabad has already been decorated with flashy lights and national flags.
The activities are estimated to inject between PKR 15-20 billion into the economy through the sale of flags, clothing, and decorative items, primarily imported from China.
The Capital Development Authority (CDA), along with the Islamabad Administration and the Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), has already prepared for extensive decor and public activities across the capital.
Major roads, including Constitution Avenue, Club Road, Srinagar Highway, and Jinnah Avenue, will be illuminated with vibrant decorative lighting, LED displays, and digital streamers, CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa told WE News English.
“We are going to celebrate ‘Marka-e-Haq’ and our Independence Day with patriotic spirit that combines cultural activities and public engagement,” Randhawa stated, emphasising the importance of honouring the armed forces and the nation’s collective resilience.
The Independence Day festivities in Islamabad are expected to include a range of activities such as flag-hoisting ceremonies, cultural performances, fireworks displays, competitions in patriotic songs, debates among school children, painting contests, and tableau shows.
Parks and public spaces will be adorned with themed branding that reflects national pride, while public transport buses and vehicles will also participate in the celebrations with special decor.
Kashif Chaudhary, President of the All Pakistan Traders Association, highlighted the significant economic stimulus brought by the Independence Day celebrations.
He said that the retail sector alone is experiencing a surge in demand, with expected expenditures on consumer goods, including promotional electronics and clothing, also on the rise as businesses prepare for the influx of shoppers.
“Around PKR 15–20 billion will be spent, which will significantly support traders and vendors throughout the country,” Chaudhary stated.
The spirit of celebration is not limited to the capital. Across Punjab, activities are ramping up under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, who emphasised the theme of “Marka-e-Haq.”
Cities such as Gujrat, Sahiwal, and Khanewal are undergoing their own preparations, with ceremonies planned for flag hoisting and cultural enrichment.
Special programmes in schools are particularly fostering enthusiasm among the youth, as vendors report increased sales of national flags and themed merchandise.
Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal articulated the significance of this year’s celebrations, stating, “We are marking a moment of national revival that reflects the resilience of our people and the resolve of our state.”
Iqbal noted that Pakistan is not just a peace-loving nation but also one that steadfastly defends its sovereign integrity.
He called for a unified front, stating that through ‘Marka-e-Haq,’ Pakistanis should celebrate their achievements across various fields, from military accomplishments to economic and cultural advances.
This year’s Independence Day also comes at a time of marked economic recovery for Pakistan. With inflation on the decline and foreign reserves rebounding, signs of stability are evident across various sectors, including IT and digital services, leading to increased investor confidence.
Pakistan’s achievements in health, sports, and international recognition showcase its capacity for growth and innovation. From eradicating trachoma to successes in international sports competitions, this year serves as a testament to Pakistan’s progress.
