WASHINGTON: US President Joe Biden has said that he will work with Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, terming the right-wing leader his “friend” but vowing to oppose policies that jeopardize a two-state solution with the Palestinians.

The US President said in a statement on Thursday that he is looking forward to working with Netanyahu to jointly address many challenges and opportunities confronting Israel and the middle east.

He said that the United States (US) will continue to support the two-state solution and to oppose policies that jeopardize its feasibility or deny their mutual interests and values.

Benjamin Netanyahu had tense ties with the Democrat former President Barack Obama. The right-wing leader of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu took oath on Thursday, leading the most right-wing government in the history of Israel.

The government of Netanyahu includes extreme-right figures such as Itamar Ben-Gvir in the cabinet. He will work as a Minister of National Security in the new cabinet. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the Biden administration would judge Netanyahu’s cabinet by the policies they pursue rather than personalities.

President Biden said the United States (US) is working to promote the region that’s increasingly integrated, secure and prosperous, with benefits for all of its people.
