ISLAMABAD: Indian actress Sonakshi Sinha has publicly criticised Indian television news channels for their sensationalist and irresponsible coverage of the ongoing tensions between India and Pakistan.

In a strongly worded post on the social media platform Instagram, the actress criticised mainstream media for focusing on sensationalism rather than presenting the truth when reporting on sensitive military issues.

Our news channels are a joke,” she wrote. “I’m so done with these over-dramatised visuals and effects, the screams and shouting! What are you people doing? Just do your job, report facts as they are,” she said.

She condemned the use of dramatised visuals, loud sound effects, and emotionally charged storytelling commonly seen in media coverage of military actions and global conflicts. According to her, these tactics contribute to public panic and spread misinformation.

Sonakshi also urged her followers to steer clear of what she described as “crap passed off as news” and to seek out reliable, fact-based sources for accurate information.

Stop sensationalising WAR and creating panic among people who are anyway anxious for God’s sake. People just find a reliable news source and stick to that…stop watching this garbage in the name of news,” she added.

Her comments follow a recent advisory from India’s Ministry of Defence to media outlets and digital platforms, cautioning against the live broadcast of military operations, troop deployments, and strategic decisions. The ministry emphasised that such coverage poses risks to national security and could compromise operational secrecy. Officials warned that unverified reports aired by Indian media could be exploited by adversaries.

Amid escalating regional tensions, Sonakshi’s appeal for more responsible journalism has gained significant traction on social media, sparking widespread discussion.
