LONDON: Victoria Beckham has spoken for the first time about the ongoing family tensions involving her eldest son, Brooklyn Beckham, in a recent interview.
The 51-year-old designer was asked about the reported estrangement with her 27-year-old son, who works as an aspiring chef.
However, she chose not to mention his name directly and avoided going into detail about the situation.
“I think that we’ve always—we love our children so much,” the former Spice Girls member told The Wall Street Journal.
She added that she and her husband, David Beckham, have always tried to be the best parents they can be.
Victoria also reflected on the challenges of raising a family in the public eye, saying, “We’ve been in the public eye for more than 30 years now, and all we’ve ever tried to do is protect our children and love our children. And that’s all I really want to say about it.”
Her brief comments mark her first public response to the situation, after previously remaining silent on the matter.
Meanwhile, reports suggest that David and Victoria Beckham have made efforts to reach out to Brooklyn in an attempt to ease tensions.
However, Brooklyn has publicly indicated that reconciliation is not something he is currently open to.
In an Instagram Story posted in January, he accused his family of trying “endlessly to ruin” his relationship with his wife, Nicola Peltz.
He also claimed that they prioritised “public promotion and endorsements above all else”.
Brooklyn further alleged that his parents attempted to “bribe” him into signing away the rights to his name before his wedding, and said his mother “hijacked” a moment during his wedding celebrations.
He concluded by stating, “I do not want to reconcile with my family. I’m not being controlled. I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life.”
