ISLAMABAD: Amid an increasing wave of public sector strikes, the Border Force officers working as passport control staff at UK airport were replaced by military personnel on Friday.
A total of six airports have been affected by the strike, which are due to handling about a quarter of a million passengers just before the busy weekend coinciding with the Christmas holiday.
Heathrow and Gatwick officials claimed their immigration booths were functioning normally in the face of the strike, where the government called in personnel of the armed forces and civil servants to replace the striking workers.

First of eight scheduled strikes at UK airports
The Public and Commercial Service has organized the stoppage in which around 1,000 workers at Birmingham, Cardiff, Heathrow, Glasgow, Gatwick, Manchester, and Newhaven airports have taken part.
Friday’s strike is the scheduled first of eight strikes to be held between Friday and January 1.
