BUDAPEST, Hungary: Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban here, according to the presidential press service of Uzbekistan.
It said Orban thanked Mirziyoyev for his personal appearance in events in connection with the state holiday of Hungary, St. Stephen’s Day, and the finals of the men’s race of the World Athletics Championships.
Speaking on the occasion, the Uzbek leader congratulated the Hungarian dignitary and the people of Hungary on the national holiday. Both sides discussed issues relating to the Uzbek-Hungarian strategic partnership and forging multifaceted cooperation.
According to the press service, fruitful contacts have been established at the level of parliaments, governments, departments and regional administrations and high-level agreements are being effectively implemented. The volume of mutual trade is swelling, the cooperation of leading enterprises in various sectors of the economy is strengthening, it added.
Experts see the entry of the Hungarian OTP bank into the Uzbekistan banking and financial market as a strategic project and an important signal for European business. Furthermore, large Hungarian companies as Gedeon Richter, Bonafarm, Meditop, Wizz Air and others are actively involved in trade, economic and investment cooperation projects with Uzbekistan.
The August 20-launch of direct flights between Budapest and Tashkent was also noted as a significant development contributing to the business ties and an increase in the tourist flow.
