GAZA CITY, Palestine: Two Palestinians, including a doctor, were killed and several others wounded in separate Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip on Saturday, Palestinian health officials said.

The attacks occurred on the fourth day of Eid al-Adha and amid continued violence despite a ceasefire agreement announced in October, according to Palestinian officials.

One of those killed was Dr Jamal Abu Aoun, head of the anaesthesia department at Al-Yafa Medical Hospital in Deir al-Balah in central Gaza.

A medical source at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital told Anadolu news agency that Abu Aoun was killed in an Israeli drone strike near the hospital.

“The body of Jamal Abu Aoun and three injured people, including a child, had arrived at the hospital following an Israeli drone strike that targeted a group of civilians near the hospital,” the source said.

Earlier on Saturday, Israeli artillery shelling targeted areas east and south of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, while another strike hit the northeastern part of Al-Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, Gaza’s health ministry said.

Later in the day, another Palestinian was killed and several others were wounded in a drone strike near Firas Market in Gaza City, one of the enclave’s busiest commercial areas, Palestinian news agency Wafa reported.

A medical source at the Baptist Hospital told Anadolu that two injured Palestinians, including one in critical condition, had been brought to the facility following the attack.

Meanwhile, Israeli forces demolished homes east of Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza, according to Palestinian media reports.

The Gaza Media Office said Israeli attacks since the October ceasefire have killed at least 929 Palestinians and wounded 2,811 others.

Palestinian authorities say Israel’s military campaign, launched in October 2023, has killed more than 72,000 Palestinians and injured over 172,000 others in Gaza.
