Mirpur, Bangladesh: A brilliant century from Najmul Hossain Shanto and a resilient half-century by Mominul Haque helped Bangladesh dominate the opening day of the first Test against Pakistan at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium on Friday.

Opting to bat first, Bangladesh finished day one at 301-4 in 85 overs. Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 48 off 104 balls (six fours), while Litton Das made eight off 35 deliveries.
Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Shaheen Afridi struck early, removing opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy for eight (19 balls, two fours). Shadman Islam followed soon after, dismissed by Hasan Ali for 13 (30 balls, two fours), leaving Bangladesh wobbling at 31-2 in 10.1 overs.

Mominul Haque and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto then joined forces to steady the innings, sharing a 50-run stand and pushing the total past 100 by lunch (101-2 in 26 overs).
The duo continued to frustrate the visitors, bringing up a 100-run partnership. Shanto reached his sixth Test fifty, followed by Mominul’s 26th Test half-century. The captain then raised his bat for his ninth Test century, powering Bangladesh past 200.

Mohammad Abbas finally broke the 170-run stand, dismissing Shanto for a superb 101 off 130 balls (12 fours, two sixes). Tea arrived with Bangladesh well placed at 201-3 in 52.2 overs.
Mushfiqur Rahim joined Mominul, and the pair added a 75-run stand before Noman Ali removed Mominul for a gritty 91 off 200 deliveries (10 fours). Mushfiqur then teamed up with Litton Das, keeping the scoreboard ticking as Bangladesh crossed 300 in the 84th over.

At stumps, Mushfiqur remained unbeaten. Pakistan’s bowlers, Shaheen Afridi, Mohammad Abbas, Hasan Ali, and Noman Ali, took one wicket each but struggled with fitness issues, conceding 31 extras, including 16 byes, seven leg-byes, and eight no-balls.
