RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan has discussed diplomatic efforts to ease regional tension in a phone call with his Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi.

“During the call, they discussed regional developments and efforts to de-escalate and ease tensions in the region,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Monday.

Meanwhile, Prince Faisal bin Farhan spoke on the phone with his Bahraini counterpart, Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani.

“During the call, they discussed the current developments in the region and the continuation of bilateral coordination in this regard,” the Saudi foreign ministry said.

The Foreign Minister also received a telephone call from Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

“During the call, they discussed the latest developments in the region and the two countries’ efforts to promote security and stability,” the Foreign Ministry statement said.

It is pertinent to mention that Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in Russia on Monday after paying a brief visit to Pakistan on Sunday, as Islamabad intensified diplomatic efforts to revive stalled talks between Washington and Tehran.

The Iranian top diplomat also visited Oman before reaching Pakistan.

Araghchi had been in Islamabad only the day before, where he held meetings with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar.

The first round of direct US-Iran talks took place in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, following a Pakistan-brokered ceasefire on April 8.

The talks helped establish rare direct channels between Washington and Tehran, laying the groundwork for continued engagement despite ongoing tensions.
