RAWALPINDI: Pakistan’s newly appointed T20I captain Sahibzada Farhan has urged the team’s top-order batters to adopt an aggressive approach as Pakistan prepare to face Sri Lanka in a three-match T20I series at home.

Speaking at the pre-series press conference in Rawalpindi, Farhan said modern T20 cricket demands a positive mindset from the outset and expressed confidence that Pakistan’s top-order batters could deliver an attacking brand of cricket.

“I want the top order to bat according to the T20 mindset. Pakistan’s top-order batters play aggressively, just as I do,” Farhan said.

Youth and experience to strengthen Pakistan

The 30-year-old captain said Pakistan have a balanced squad featuring both young and experienced players, with senior members expected to assist him during his first series as T20I captain.

“There is a combination of young and senior players in the squad, and the presence of experienced players will help me as captain,” he said.

Farhan also suggested that Pakistan could field two spinners and three fast bowlers, depending on the conditions, which he expects to favour batting.

“We will get batting-friendly conditions in Pakistan. We will play with two spinners and three fast bowlers,” he said.

Farhan focused on winning, not captaincy future

The new skipper acknowledged the additional pressure that comes with leading Pakistan but stressed that international cricket presents challenges regardless of the opponent.

“There is definitely pressure that comes with captaincy, but there are no small or big teams in international cricket,” he said, adding that the Sri Lanka series would also provide valuable preparation for Pakistan’s upcoming ODI commitments.

Farhan said Pakistan have limited T20I opportunities after the series and therefore need to maximise the matches against Sri Lanka.

“The number of T20 matches after this series is limited, so these games will be important for us,” he said.

The captain added that he was not looking beyond the present assignment and would concentrate on producing results for Pakistan.

“I am not thinking about whether I will get the captaincy in the future or not. As long as I am captain, I want to help Pakistan win matches in different ways,” he said.

Farhan also called on supporters to turn up at the Rawalpindi stadium, saying the atmosphere created by the home crowd adds to the players’ enjoyment.

“The crowd always comes to Rawalpindi. If the crowd does not come, we do not enjoy it either,” he said.
