ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is preparing to establish hundreds of cattle markets across the country ahead of Eid al-Adha, with temporary sale points being set up in all four provinces, as well as Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Authorities in major cities, districts, and smaller towns have begun finalizing arrangements for the annual markets, which attract millions of buyers ahead of the religious festival marked by the sacrifice of animals.

Eid Al-Adha, one of Islam’s two major festivals, commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s (PBUH) willingness to sacrifice his son in obedience to God’s command. The meat from sacrificial animals is traditionally shared among relatives, friends, and those in need.

In the capital, Islamabad, the district administration announced that six cattle markets would be established at Zia Masjid in Sector G-7, Sector I-12, Barakahu, Lehtrar Road near the Sultan Foundation, Sangjani, and Japan Road.

“The setup of all six points will be completed starting from May 10,” the administration said in a statement.

Deputy Commissioner Irfan Nawaz Memon said magistrates would remain deployed at each market to monitor arrangements and enforce regulations.

He said the sale and purchase of sacrificial animals outside designated cattle markets would be strictly prohibited.

Authorities also stated that special traffic management plans were being coordinated with the traffic police to ensure smooth vehicle movement around the markets.

Every year, cattle markets across Pakistan become major seasonal attractions, drawing large crowds of buyers and visitors, particularly to see expensive and uniquely bred sacrificial animals.
