ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Law, Justice, and Human Rights, Azam Nazeer Tarar, held a meeting with Saudi Arabia’s Secretary General of the Family Affairs Council, Dr. Maimoona Al-Khalil, during which the two sides discussed women’s rights, strengthening the family system, and enhancing cooperation under the OIC framework.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women in Islamabad, focusing on women’s rights, social protection, and greater cooperation among Muslim countries, said a statement issued by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting on Sunday.
The meeting discussed Saudi Arabia’s social and economic reforms, the increasing participation of women, and the exchange of mutual experiences.

During the meeting, Tarar said that Islam has granted women full rights in education, inheritance, business, and social life.
He added that Hazrat Khadijah (RA), Hazrat Aisha (RA), and Hazrat Fatimah (RA) are the finest examples for women.
The minister added that Pakistan was the first country in the Muslim world to elect a female Prime Minister, while today women are playing prominent roles in various sectors of national development.

Promoting women’s empowerment
The two countries reaffirmed their commitment to further promoting women’s empowerment, strengthening the family system, and joint cooperation on the OIC platform.
Earlier, Azam Nazeer Tarar met with Dr. Zahra Behrouz Azar, Vice President of Iran for Women and Family Affairs, and held detailed discussions on women’s empowerment, OIC cooperation, and bilateral relations between Pakistan and Iran.
Dr. Zahra appreciated Pakistan’s positive diplomatic role, including its mediation and facilitation efforts for a ceasefire, and expressed gratitude for Pakistan’s support. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the historic, religious, cultural, and fraternal ties between the two countries.

The two leaders also agreed to work jointly for the promotion and protection of women’s rights, including highlighting the challenges faced by women in Palestine and Afghanistan at the OIC platform and developing collective measures for their welfare and well-being.
Dr. Zahra welcomed Pakistan’s upcoming two-year chairmanship of the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women and expressed confidence that Pakistan would play an effective role in advancing women’s empowerment across member states.
Separately, Türkiye’s Minister for Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş called on Azam Nazeer Tarar in Islamabad, where the two sides discussed women’s rights, strengthening family structures, and expanding social security cooperation.
The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration in areas including family welfare, child protection, women’s empowerment, social services and joint policy initiatives in the digital sector. Pakistan and Türkiye agreed to further expand institutional cooperation, share experiences and develop joint projects in these fields.

During the meeting, the two countries also signed a Memorandum of Understanding to strengthen cooperation in family affairs, social services, and social security, reaffirming their commitment to advancing joint initiatives.
Meanwhile, Azam Nazeer Tarar also met Jalila Allahverdiyeva, Head of the Administrative Division of the OIC Labour Centre of Azerbaijan. During the meeting, the minister highlighted that Islam provides women with dignity, equality and fundamental rights, stressing that the Muslim Ummah has a collective responsibility to safeguard and promote these rights.
Tarar said Pakistan is implementing priority measures for women’s development and noted the growing role of women in the country’s political system, parliament, judiciary, education, business, and other sectors.
The two sides agreed to promote joint initiatives under the OIC framework aimed at empowering women, expanding social protection programmes, and enhancing capacity-building opportunities for women across member states.
