Pakistan PM Lauds Muslim World League’s Role in Promoting Unity, Moderate Islam

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday commended the Muslim World League (MWL) for its efforts to promote the true and moderate image of Islam, foster unity among the Muslim Ummah, and advance the values of tolerance, fraternity, and interfaith harmony.

The prime minister made the remarks during a meeting with MWL Secretary-General Sheikh Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, who called on him in Islamabad, said a statement issued by the PM House’s media wing.

The Prime Minister warmly welcomed Dr. Al-Issa and thanked him for his participation in the OIC Ministerial Conference on Women, held in Islamabad on 12-13 July.

During the meeting, Shehbaz Sharif praised the League’s global initiatives aimed at strengthening solidarity among Muslim countries and promoting peaceful coexistence.

He also acknowledged Dr. Al-Issa’s leadership in expanding the organisation’s international outreach and reaffirmed Pakistan’s continued support for its initiatives.

The prime minister highlighted the importance of the MWL’s efforts to encourage religious dialogue in addressing challenges facing the Muslim world, including the regional situation involving Iran and the Gulf states, the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, and other issues confronting Muslim communities worldwide.

Recalling Dr. Al-Issa’s previous visits to Pakistan, Shehbaz Sharif appreciated his contributions, particularly his role in hosting the International Summit on Girls’ Education in Islamabad. He also expressed satisfaction over the growing cooperation between Pakistan and the MWL in the fields of education, interfaith dialogue, and efforts to counter extremism and Islamophobia.

The prime minister conveyed his respects to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and extended his best wishes to Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Al-Issa thanked the prime minister for the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation and praised Pakistan’s leadership role in the Muslim world.

He reaffirmed the Muslim World League’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Pakistan in religious, educational, and humanitarian fields.

Dr. Al-Issa also commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his leadership in recent regional peace efforts and expressed appreciation for the contributions of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of the Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir toward the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding.

Concluding the meeting, the prime minister thanked the MWL secretary-general for his visit, and both sides agreed to maintain close coordination to expedite ongoing joint initiatives and deepen cooperation on areas of mutual interest.

The Muslim World League (MWL), a Makkah-based non-governmental organisation, brings together representatives from across the Islamic world and promotes interfaith dialogue and harmony. Before assuming his current position, Al-Issa served as Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Justice from 2009 to 2015.

The Secretary General was accompanied by the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to Pakistan, Nawaf Saeed  Al-Maliky.
