TEHRAN: An Iranian general warned that Iran is still seeking to kill former US secretary of state Mike Pompeo and former US president Donald Trump in revenge for assassinating commander Qasem Soleimani.

Tehran has repeatedly resolved to avenge the killing of Qasem Soleimani in a US drone attack on Baghdad airport in January 2020.

“We hope we can kill Donald Trump, Mike Pompeo, McKenzie, and the military commanders who gave the order” to kill Qasem Soleimani, General Amirali Hajjizadeh, the Islamic Revolutionary Guards’ aerospace unit commander, said.

Trump had ordered the drone strike in response to several attacks on US interests in Iraq that his government blamed on Iran.

Days later, Iran retaliated with missile strikes at a US air base in Iraq. None were killed, but the US said dozens of troops suffered traumatic brain damage.

US and its allies repeatedly express about Iran’s missile program

The US and its allies have repeatedly shown concerns about Iran’s ballistic missile program and its “destabilizing” role in the Middle East.

In his televised speech, Hajjizadeh said Iran is now capable of hitting American ships at a distance of 1,243 miles (2,000 kilometers).”

“We have maintained this limit of 2,000 kilometers out of respect for the European countries, and we hope that the European nations show themselves worthy of this respect,” the Iranian general maintained.

On Saturday, Iranian state television broadcasted a video of what it said was a newly launched “Paveh cruise missile with a range of 1,025 miles (1,650 kilometers)” developed by the Guards.

The state television reported on Friday that Iran was likely to provide Syria with the 15-Khordad surface-to-air missile system to strengthen its defensive capabilities.
