ISLAMABAD: Daily food items are making up a big chunk of Pakistan’s imports as four such essentials accounted for nearly 70 percent of the food group imports during the 7 months of the ongoing fiscal year.
Total food group imports amounted to $6 billion in 7 months of the Financial Year 2022-23. These items include wheat, palm oil, tea, and pulses imports stood at around $4.175 billion dollars.

In break up, wheat imports jumped by 23.6% to $775 million, tea imports up by 2.5% to $364 million, palm oil up by 15% to $2.447 billion, and pulses by 55% to $589 million.
Pakistan’s total imports during July-January 2022-23 were $36.09 billion as against last year when it was $46.59 billion. Food imports were 16% of the total imports.
