“The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s steadfast solidarity with the leadership and people of Qatar during this period of profound grief, and prayed that Allah Almighty grant the departed soul the highest place in Jannat-ul-Firdaus and bestow strength upon the Royal family and the Qatari nation to bear this irreparable loss,” the statement said.

The Qatari Emir thanked the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and the delegation for the special gesture of travelling to Doha to personally offer condolences, describing it as a reflection of the deep-rooted fraternal bonds between the two brotherly countries and peoples.

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani passed away at the age of 74, Qatar’s Amiri Diwan announced on Sunday.

He came to power in 1995 and ruled Qatar until 2013, when he voluntarily transferred authority to his son, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in a rare and peaceful succession within the Gulf region.

During his tenure, Sheikh Hamad oversaw Qatar’s emergence as the world’s leading exporter of liquefied natural gas, expanded its global investment portfolio and elevated the country’s influence in regional diplomacy and international affairs.

Despite its relatively small population of around 2.5 million, Qatar has become a significant player in global energy markets and Middle Eastern diplomacy, a transformation widely attributed to Sheikh Hamad’s leadership.
