WASHINGTON: Democratic Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib has announced plans to force another vote in the US Congress aimed at ending American involvement in Israel’s military campaign in Lebanon, accusing Washington of supporting what she described as “war crimes” and an illegal occupation.
In a statement shared on X, Tlaib said she would seek a fresh congressional vote to halt US participation in what she characterised as the Israeli “apartheid regime’s campaign of ethnic cleansing and territorial expansion” in Lebanon.
Tomorrow, I will force another vote to end U.S. participation in the Israeli apartheid regime’s campaign of ethnic cleansing and territorial expansion in Lebanon.

The lawmaker claimed that more than 4,250 people had been killed during the conflict and alleged that 12 children were being killed or maimed each day as the fighting continued. She argued that continued US military support made Washington complicit in the violence.
“Congress must vote to end US support for these atrocities and force an end to Israel’s invasion and illegal military occupation of Lebanese territory,” Tlaib wrote.
The Michigan Democrat, one of the most outspoken critics of US support for Israel, has repeatedly called for stricter congressional oversight of American military assistance to Israel and has urged lawmakers to back measures aimed at limiting US involvement in the conflict.
Her latest initiative comes amid continuing international concern over the humanitarian impact of the fighting in Lebanon and growing calls from some lawmakers and rights advocates for a reassessment of US policy in the region.
It remains unclear whether Tlaib’s proposal will secure sufficient support in Congress, where previous efforts to restrict US military assistance to Israel have faced significant opposition.
