KARACHI: In a landmark move aimed at lifting the morale and preparedness of the national squad, the Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) has released Rs45 million among players ahead of a string of crucial international assignments, officials confirmed on Thursday.

For the first time in the country’s hockey history, financial incentives have been issued before a major competition rather than after, with each member of the national team receiving Rs2.2 million as part of a comprehensive support package.

The federation also confirmed additional payments of Rs700,000 per player under Pro League participation allowances, alongside Rs1.5 million each as a Prime Minister’s reward for qualifying for the Hockey World Cup.

PHF President Mohiyuddin Ahmed Wani hailed the development as a turning point in how the sport’s financial affairs are being managed.

“This is the first occasion where players have received advance payments before going into a major competition,” Wani said, emphasising that the initiative is designed to ensure better preparation, reduce financial stress, and boost squad morale.

He further revealed that daily allowances for players competing in the Pro League have been aligned with international standards, with each player now receiving $110 per day.

Wani added that the federation is operating strictly under the directives of the Prime Minister, with a clear focus on improving both administrative efficiency and sporting conditions for the national setup.

“The affairs of Pakistan Hockey are being managed in line with the Prime Minister’s instructions,” he said, expressing confidence that the players will repay the faith with strong performances.

“We hope the team will deliver outstanding results in the Pro League and represent the country with distinction on the international stage,” Wani added.
