Huge Crowds Gather in Hilly Areas to Enjoy Snowfall

ISLAMABAD: With the start of snowfall, several tourists from across Pakistan have started visiting the hilly areas to enjoy the snowfall.

Popular tourist destinations, including Malam Jabba, Murree, Kalam, Kaghan, Naran, Swat, Chitral, Hunza, Ziarat, and Kashmir, witnessed a great rush of tourists.

Snowfall

Snowfall is likely in the hilly areas in the coming days. On the other hand, tourists are facing issues, as Naran-Kaghan Road has been closed since November 2022, and the only available route to these tourist destinations is the Karakoram Highway.

Tourists have been advised to check road situations, routes, and weather advisories before leaving for these destinations.

Today’s weather forecast

Pakistan Meteorological Department (Met) has forecast mainly dry and cold weather in most parts of the country, while very cold in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Air quality

The air quality in Lahore is 180 US AQI; in Bahawalpur, it is 179, 170 in Muridke, and 205 in Rawalpindi. In Sindh, the air quality in Karachi is 177 US AQI, while Islamabad’s air quality stands at 160. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), the air quality in Peshawar is 171, while 88 in Abbottabad.

Recorded temperatures

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (MET), a maximum of 12 degrees Celsius (°C) temperature was recorded in Islamabad, 12°C in Lahore, 21°C in Karachi, 13.5°C in Peshawar, 0°C in Quetta, and 6.5°C in Gilgit.

Minimum recorded temperatures

Today’s recorded lowest temperature (°C): Kalam -15, Leh-14, Astore -10, Skardu, Kalat, Ziarat -09, Mastung -08, Hunza, Malamjabba, Parachinar, Nokkundi -07, Quetta, Dalbandin, Chamman and Dir -06.
