ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is set to experience a spell of turbulent weather starting June 2, as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicts widespread dust-thunderstorms, rain, and isolated hailstorms across the upper and central regions of the country through June 5, driven by a westerly wave arriving on Tuesday.

PMD on Monday predicted scattered dust-thunderstorm and rain activity, accompanied by isolated heavy falls and hailstorms, in multiple regions including Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, northeastern Balochistan, and upper Sindh during the four-day period.

In Punjab, areas such as Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Sialkot, Faisalabad, Multan, and Bahawalpur are likely to experience the weather system. Similarly, KP districts including Peshawar, Swat, Chitral, Abbottabad, and Dera Ismail Khan will see rain-wind storms, while northeastern Balochistan and upper Sindh (Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad) will also be affected, though to a lesser extent.

Gilgit-Baltistan can expect rain from June 4 to 6. The PMD warned that windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning could damage vulnerable structures such as solar panels, electric poles, and billboards. Landslides are possible in hilly areas of upper KP, GB, and AJK from June 3 to 6.

According to the PMD, upper Sindh will experience dust storms and thunderstorms from June 2 to June 4, affecting districts such as Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, and Shaheed Benazirabad.

Meanwhile, northeastern Balochistan, including Quetta, Zhob, Sherani, Ziarat, Chaman, Qila Abdullah, Qila Saifullah, Barkhan, and Dera Bugti, will witness similar dust storm and thunderstorm activity during the same period, from June 2 to June 4.

Farmers have been advised to manage their crops according to the weather, while tourists and travelers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel. All concerned authorities have been told to remain vigilant and take precautionary measures.
