LOS ANGELES, USA: The wait is over. Taylor Swift has finally announced that she has written an original song for “Toy Story 5.” The track is called “I Knew It, I Knew You,” and it will be released this Friday, June 5.

Disney says the song marks “a return to country” for Swift. The song is connected to the franchise’s beloved cowgirl character, Jessie.

Swift wrote and produced the song with her longtime collaborator Jack Antonoff, who last worked with her on her album “The Tortured Poets Department.”

Limited edition CDs on sale

Fans can buy a CD single from Swift’s online store. The CD includes three versions of the song: the original, an acoustic version, and a piano version. The CDs are limited edition and will ship on June 19, the same day the movie hits theaters.

The announcement was teased with a countdown clock on Swift’s website and a billboard in New York’s Times Square.

Swift’s love for Toy Story

“It’s a Toy Story,” Swift wrote to her fans, adding a cowboy hat emoji.

“You knew it! My new original song ‘I Knew It, I Knew You’ for Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5 will be yours on June 5th. I’ve always dreamed of getting to write for these characters who I’ve adored since I was a 5-year-old kid watching the first Toy Story. I fell instantly in love with Toy Story 5 when I was lucky enough to see it in its early stages, and I wrote this song as soon as I got home from the screening. Sometimes you just know, right?”

Disney’s press release explained that the song marks a return to Taylor Swift’s country roots. The style blends the different sounds that have made her one of the biggest stars in music.

Andrew Stanton, the writer and director of Toy Story 5, said: “It’s incredible just how meaningful it’s been having Taylor write and perform this song. Her connection to Jessie was undeniable. The song is so deeply connected to ‘Toy Story.’ On first listen, it instantly felt like it had always belonged there, like a long-lost family member. It was fate.”

The fifth Toy Story movie focuses on Jessie. In the film, she returns to her old home. But the girl who used to own her, Emily, no longer lives there. A new family has moved in, and a young girl named Blaze now lives in Jessie’s old room. Jessie is forced to deal with painful memories and feelings of being left behind.

For music chart fans, “I Knew It, I Knew You” will be available for streaming starting this Friday. The song will get an extra boost when the CDs ship on June 19, which is the same week the movie opens in theaters.

A legacy of emotional songs for Jessie

This is not the first time a famous singer has written a sad, beautiful song for Jessie. In Toy Story 2, singer Sarah McLachlan performed “When She Loved Me,” which was nominated for an Oscar. That song is still remembered as one of the most emotional moments in the entire Toy Story series.

The movie comes out on June 19, and the big premiere is next week. Fans are eager to see if this song is Swift’s only role in the film, or if there are more surprises to come.
