MADINAH: Authorities in Madinah are intensifying preparations ahead of the holy month of Ramadan, with markets and streets undergoing extensive organisational and aesthetic upgrades to accommodate an expected surge in pilgrims and visitors.

The city’s initiative aims to create a shopping environment that embodies the spirituality and festive spirit of the season, coinciding with one of the busiest periods for local commerce and tourism.

Preparations include heightened readiness in markets and roadways, alongside improved lighting to enhance safety and ambiance, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The urban landscape is being adorned with traditional lanterns and welcoming phrases, creating a distinctive and inviting atmosphere for residents and visitors alike.

Markets are witnessing increased activity and demand for Ramadan essentials, supported by continuous regulatory monitoring to maintain high standards of service.

This effort aligns with the city’s dual role as a religious hub and a key tourist destination during the holy month, ensuring a seamless experience for all.

While Saudi authorities have yet to release an official estimate for the number of visitors expected in Madinah during Ramadan 1447 AH (2026), the city continues to see strong tourism trends.

Madinah typically welcomes millions of visitors each year, with about 9 million tourists annually under the Saudi Vision 2030 tourism framework.

Early 2025 figures showed approximately 6.45 million pilgrims and tourists visited Madinah in just the first quarter, highlighting the sustained demand for religious tourism in the city.

Officials are ramping up preparations to accommodate the anticipated influx of pilgrims and tourists, ensuring that infrastructure, services, and religious sites are ready for the busy season.
