Pakistan Invites Polish Firms to Invest in Energy, Mining, and IT Sectors

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday invited Polish companies to explore investment opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in the energy, mining, and information technology sectors.

PM Sharif extended the invitation during a courtesy call by Poland’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Radoslaw Sikorski, according to a statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office.

During the discussion, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation with Poland in areas such as trade, energy, defence, education, labour, and other fields of mutual interest.

PM Sharif noted that Pakistan and Poland have long enjoyed cordial and friendly relations spanning several decades and praised Poland’s remarkable industrial development and progress, particularly since the 1970s.

During the meeting, regional and global developments, including peace efforts in the Middle East and Ukraine, were also discussed.

The prime minister stressed the significance of peaceful resolution of disputes through dialogue and diplomacy, and underscored Pakistan’s consistent position of upholding international law, humanitarian principles, and the UN Charter.

PM Shehbaz conveyed his warm regards to Prime Minister Donald Tusk of Poland and extended an invitation to him to undertake an official visit to Pakistan at his earliest convenience.

The Polish Deputy PM expressed Poland’s strong interest in strengthening its engagement with Pakistan in diverse sectors.

While sharing that Polish investment in Pakistan’s petrochemical sector was over US$0.5 billion, he viewed that Pakistan could also benefit from Polish expertise in water treatment. He also appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional peace and stability.

Both sides agreed to strengthen engagement and enhance cooperation between the two countries.

Earlier, the Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, who is on an official visit to Pakistan, held detailed discussions at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar.

The visit also included the signing of two Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and an address by the Polish dignitary at a local think tank.
