DOHA, Qatar: Pakistan and Turkiye have jointly condemned Israel’s recent “unprovoked and unjustified” strikes on Qatar and other nations in the region.

This came during a meeting between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar on Monday and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan on the margins of the top Arab-Islamic diplomats’ meeting in Doha, according to a statement issued by the Foreign Office.

The Summit has been convened in the wake of Israel’s airstrikes on Doha and the worsening human rights situation in Palestine.

The Foreign Office said the two leaders strongly condemned Israel’s unprovoked and unjustified strikes on Qatar and other nations in the region, amidst the ongoing aggression in Palestine.

They also reaffirmed unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, underlined the significance of the OIC and the Arab League in mobilising collective action of the Muslim Ummah, and welcomed the convening of the Arab-Islamic Summit.

On Tuesday, an Israeli airstrike on a residential compound in Doha targeted Hamas members, as the group was reviewing a US proposal to end the war in Gaza, where nearly 65,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 2023.

Arab and Islamic foreign ministers began a closed-door preparatory meeting in Doha on Sunday ahead of Monday’s emergency summit, which will bring together heads of state.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Qatar on a day-long official visit to attend the Emergency Arab-Islamic Summit.

In a show of solidarity and regional unity, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif visited Doha on Thursday and met with Qatari leadership to reaffirm Pakistan’s unwavering support for Qatar’s security and sovereignty, and its commitment to peace and stability in the Middle East.
