DOHA, QATAR: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif arrived in Doha on Wednesday for a one-day visit aimed at expressing solidarity with Qatar following Israel’s unprecedented air strikes on the Gulf nation’s capital.
Sharif was received at Doha airport by Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defence, Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan bin Ali Al Thani. He is leading a high-level delegation that includes Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Special Assistant Tariq Fatemi.
During the visit, Sharif will meet Qatar’s Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, to convey what he described as Pakistan’s “firm support” for the Qatari leadership and people. The prime minister denounced the Israeli strike on Doha as a “dastardly act” and “a blatant violation of sovereignty and international law” that threatened regional peace.

“Pakistan has always stood by Qatar in difficult times and will continue to do so,” Sharif said in a statement, adding that the two countries’ ties are rooted in “shared faith, values and brotherhood.”
Officials said the two leaders will also consult on Israel’s widening aggression across the Middle East and possible measures to restore regional peace and stability.
In a late-night phone call ahead of the visit, Sharif reassured Sheikh Tamim of Pakistan’s “deepest sympathies and solidarity,” while calling for unity within the Muslim world “at this critical moment.” The Amir thanked the Pakistani leader, describing the gesture as a reflection of the “longstanding brotherly ties” between the two nations.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry separately described the Israeli strike as “reckless, highly provocative, and an open violation of the UN Charter,” while Sharif reiterated on social media that the bombing of a residential area in Doha endangered civilians and must be condemned by the international community.
Both leaders are expected to keep close contact in the coming days amid fears that Israel’s strike on Qatar could escalate tensions further across the region.
