ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has announced plans to build an international cricket stadium in the country’s federal capital, Islamabad, to fulfil the cricketing dreams of millions.

The stadium will be located in Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9 Park) in Islamabad and will host both national and international matches, featuring modern facilities and meeting global cricketing standards.

This long-awaited project, which has been a point of contention and aspiration for fans, is now officially set in motion with the Capital Development Authority (CDA) awarding the design and construction oversight to the National Engineering Services Pakistan Pvt Limited (NESPAK).

Cricket facilities

Announced by NESPAK’s Managing Director, Muhammad Zargham Eshaq Khan, this development marks a significant leap forward for cricket in Pakistan.

The undertaking, awarded on a government-to-government basis, aims to establish a state-of-the-art cricket stadium nestled in the green expanse of Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9 Park), set to become the centre of both national and international cricketing endeavours.

Setting new standards

This modern coliseum promises to elevate the standard of cricketing facilities in the country, melding cutting-edge technology with a fan-friendly atmosphere.

The envisioned stadium is poised to become a beacon for both aspiring cricketers and ardent fans, a place where the thrills and spills of cricket will unfold against the backdrop of the scenic Margalla Hills.

A team of experts from NESPAK, including a Project Manager, lead architect, and structural engineer—has already embarked on an initial exploration of the chosen site.

Complementing their expertise is the insightful guidance of former Pakistan cricket captain Rashid Latif, who has been enlisted as an expert consultant for the venture, ensuring that the stadium not only meets but exceeds global benchmarks for elite cricket facilities.

Vision into reality

Despite earlier hints at this grand vision, the momentum had languished until now, transforming lengthy discussions into tangible action.

The project’s direct oversight by PCB Chairman and Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi underscores the government’s resolve to forge world-class sports infrastructure throughout the nation.
