LONDON: Despite sparking intense media speculation after multiple public appearances together, Ana de Armas and Tom Cruise are not romantically involved, a source close to the actress has confirmed.

The 37-year-old Cuban-Spanish star and the 62-year-old Hollywood icon were most recently seen enjoying a yacht getaway near Ciutadella de Menorca, Spain, fuelling rumours of a budding relationship.

However, speaking to People magazine, an insider clarified that the two share a “special work relationship” and nothing more.

“Ana is single and not dating Tom,” the source confirmed, adding that the actress’s last known relationship was with lawyer Manuel Anido Cuesta, stepson of Cuba’s president, which ended last year.

The pair, who first made headlines after being spotted having dinner in London over Valentine’s Day weekend, are preparing to co-star in director Doug Liman’s upcoming thriller Deeper, set to begin filming in August.

According to the insider, Cruise has taken on a mentor-like role. “Tom is an incredible mentor to Ana,” the source said.

“She has nothing but amazing things to say about him. He’s crazy hardworking, and she sees this project as an opportunity of a lifetime.”

While neither actor has publicly addressed the dating rumours, both have spoken warmly about each other in recent interviews.

During a May appearance on Good Morning America, de Armas teased multiple collaborations in the works.

“We’re definitely working on a lot of things — not just one, but a few projects with Doug Liman and Christopher McQuarrie, and of course, Tom,” she said. “I’m so excited.”

Cruise has also expressed admiration for de Armas’s performance in her upcoming film Ballerina, a spin-off from the John Wick universe.

In a social media post, he called the film “kick-ass” and praised its tone and execution. “It’s right in that big world, and you’re gonna love it,” he said.

Speaking to Variety in June, de Armas responded to Cruise’s support with gratitude. “It’s very special that someone like him is supporting Ballerina,” she said.

“He wants the industry and cinema to do well. We’re working together, so he got to see the movie, and he really liked it.”

She continued: “It’s really special, in general, to have other actors supporting each other. We can all do well together.”

De Armas also made headlines for her beach read during the Spanish trip — Annie Bot by Sierra Greer, a science fiction novel about an AI-created perfect girlfriend who begins to rebel against expectations.

The choice of book, captured in photos posted by celebrity gossip account DeuxMoi, only added to online intrigue.

With filming for Deeper slated to begin next month, the actors are expected to spend more time together, but all indications suggest their relationship remains firmly professional.

The upcoming thriller has been delayed previously but is now back on track, with both stars reportedly preparing intensively for their roles.
