ISLAMABAD: United States President Donald Trump will meet with Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, on his first official visit to the US since intense clashes broke out earlier this year near the Pakistan-India border, according to Bloomberg. The conflict ended in a US-brokered ceasefire between Islamabad and New Delhi.
The lunch meeting between President Trump and Field Marshal Asim Munir is scheduled to take place at 1 pm Washington time on Wednesday, in the White House Cabinet Room, according to the US president’s public schedule.
Earlier, a statement released by Pakistan’s military media wing, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said that Field Marshal Munir interacted with the Pakistani diaspora in Washington, DC.
He received a warm reception from overseas Pakistanis, who gathered in large numbers to meet the Chief of Army Staff.
Outstanding performance
The diaspora warmly appreciated the Armed Forces’ outstanding performance during Operation Bunyanum Marsoos (Marka-e-Haq), highlighting their bravery and professionalism.
During the interaction, the army chief expressed his deep appreciation for the vital and significant role played by overseas Pakistanis as ambassadors of Pakistan, according to ISPR.
He acknowledged their contributions to Pakistan’s economy and global reputation through remittances, investments, and achievements in various domains, the ISPR added.
