ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s military spokesperson Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary has asserted that Pakistan will never bow to Indian hegemony and cannot be coerced into submission.

In an interview with the Anadolu news agency, the Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said the sooner India understands this, the better it will be for peace in the region and the world.

He went on to say Pakistan is a peace-loving country, but in case of any aggression, its retribution will be swift and brutal. DG ISPR said that Pakistan is the biggest victim of terrorism.

Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhary said Pakistan has absolutely nothing to do with the Pahalgam incident. He said Jammu and Kashmir is an internationally recognised dispute, and it has to be resolved as per the will of the Kashmiri people and the UN Charter.

Meanwhile, in an interview with a US-based outlet, DG ISPR has expressed hope that the ceasefire agreement with India will continue to hold, citing ongoing communication between senior officials via a dedicated military hotline.

“We expect the ceasefire between Pakistan and India to remain intact. The hotline between both sides is operational,” he said.

He explained that after four days of missile and aerial exchanges, senior military officers from both countries stayed in contact via the hotline—a communication channel he credited with helping to prevent further escalation.

“We’ve been transparent about the human and material losses caused by Indian attacks. We hope India has shown the same openness,” the military spokesperson added.

Tension between India and Pakistan escalated after the April 22 attack in the Pahalgam area of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). India swiftly blamed Pakistan without presenting any credible evidence.

Pakistan condemned the attack and strongly denied the Indian allegations as baseless. Pakistan also offered a neutral and transparent international investigation into the incident.

However, New Delhi did not respond to Pakistan’s offer and continued with its aggressive posture.

On the night of May 6-7, India launched a series of air strikes on Pakistan, resulting in civilian casualties.

Pakistan responded firmly and downed five Indian fighter jets and destroyed a brigade headquarters and several military posts. Both sides then exchanged missiles, which stretched over the week.

On May 10, when tensions between the two countries peaked, US President Donald Trump announced that a ceasefire had been reached between India and Pakistan.

According to the government, 40 civilians — including 7 women and 15 children — lost their lives in the Indian aggression, and 121 others sustained injuries.
