ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s leading digital microfinance bank, Mobilink Bank, carried out a nationwide plantation drive to help enhance the country’s forest cover as well as mitigate the looming impacts of climate change.

Mobilink Bank’s teams from all 109 branches countrywide participated in the drive with remarkable enthusiasm and planted about five thousand saplings to protect the environment and hand down a serene and greener Pakistan to future generations.

Drive Part of Mobilink Bank’s Climate Action Programme

The drive was part of Mobilink Bank’s Climate Action Programme, Change to Sustain, which envisions a prosperous and sustainable Pakistan that is resilient and effectively shielded against the far-reaching impacts of climate change.

Mobilink Bank is part of the VEON group, an international digital operator that offers digital services and converged connectivity to about 160 million customers in six dynamic markets that are home to 7 percent of the world’s population.

Apart from the teams from Mobilink Bank branches, key officials from district administration, State Bank of Pakistan, different educational institutions’ faculty members, and civil society members also attended the plantation campaigns in multiple cities and towns. They expressed hope that the endeavor will enhance environmental protection, besides improving air quality and the natural beauty of the urban and rural areas, thereby positively impacting the lives of the people.

Sharing his thoughts regarding the plantation campaign, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of Mobilink Bank, Haaris Mahmood Chaudhary, said that Mobilink Bank was proud to achieve the major milestone of planting around five thousand trees countrywide under its Climate Action Programme, Change to Sustain. The programme stems from Mobilink’s organizational values of sustainability and social responsibility, where it seeks to create shared value for the communities it serve.

He said that the need for aggressive plantation could not be overstated, as the country was amongst the top 8 countries most affected by climate change. The programme strengthens the safeguards against climate change to protect the natural resources, livelihoods, and lives of vulnerable communities, mainly women.
