TOULOUSE, France: European aircraft manufacturer Airbus on Thursday posted record annual plane orders confirming 11 percent rise in deliveries in 2023.
The development has placed Airbus at the top manufacturing spot beating Boeing for a fifth year.
Airbus in a statement said that it had won 2,094 net orders as airlines scrambled to renew fleets in 2023.
It added it delivered 735 airplanes to 87 customers in 2023, leaving its order backlog at 8,598 aircrafts.
Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said the plane manufacturer which made a slow start to the year had witnessed increased flexibility and capability in its industrial system.
Christian Scherer, who became the Airbus CEO, Commercial Aircraft in January said aviation had recovered faster than expected from the Covid-19 pandemic. Demand for wide-body jets has been increased sharply.

In a statement he said travel is back and there is serious momentum.
“We have never sold as many A320s or A350s in any given year, not to mention welcoming seven new customers for the A350-1000,” he said in the statement.
Boeing, which is still recovering from a safety grounding of its 737 MAX aircraft followed by production issues, this week said it had delivered 528 aircraft in 2023 and booked 1,314 net new orders.
Boeing is under fresh scrutiny over production after a cabin blowout that prompted partial grounding of one type of new 737 MAX aircraft.
