ISLAMABAD: Global airline capacity fell by 0.3% on the week to 115.9m seats in the week that began August 21, suggest the latest data from flight tracking company OAG, below expectations of 116.1m seats.
Seats dropped by 0.6% compared to the same week in 2019. The minor decline occurs as the aviation industry enters a slowdown after the summer travel demand peak.
According to OAG, “Carriers continue to trim capacity based on demand, with seats 260,000 lower than expected,” and worldwide capacity is anticipated to fall to 113.5 million seats in the upcoming weeks before the winter season in November.
The number of seats decreased by 230,000 to 69.4 million, according to OAG, who also noted that domestic markets in the US and China were to blame for the dip in capacity week over week.
