ISLAMABAD: US President Donald Trump has reiterated that Washington will not allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon, describing recent US military actions as necessary.

Speaking at a White House event, Trump said preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons remained a “non-negotiable” objective for the United States.

“We can’t let Iran have a nuclear weapon,” he said, framing the issue as a core national security priority.

Trump also portrayed Iran as militarily weakened, claiming the country lacks key capabilities such as an effective navy, air force and air defence system, while suggesting gaps in its leadership structure.

Defending the recent military campaign, the US President described it as a limited but necessary action. He termed the operation a “little excursion” and argued it was justified by the threat posed by Iran’s nuclear ambitions.

“It was worth it,” he said, adding that such action should have been taken earlier.

Trump further said that US naval forces destroyed seven Iranian “small boats” during operations in the Gulf after transiting the Strait of Hormuz to secure shipping routes.
