ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strongly condemned the Houthi ballistic missile attack on Saudi Arabia and reaffirmed its full solidarity with the Kingdom, while urging dialogue, diplomacy and regional de-escalation.

Addressing an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Yemen, Pakistan’s Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Usman Jadoon, said Islamabad stood firmly with Saudi Arabia.

“Pakistan strongly condemns the Houthi ballistic missile attacks against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” Jadoon said.

“We express our full solidarity with the brotherly Kingdom and reaffirm our steadfast support for its security, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he added.

Saudi authorities said missiles launched toward the Kingdom’s southern region were intercepted.

Pakistan and Saudi Arabia share long-standing brotherly relations and signed a bilateral defence cooperation agreement last year, reaffirming their commitment to mutual security cooperation.

At the Security Council, Jadoon also reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for Yemen’s sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity.

He said lasting peace in Yemen could only be achieved through an inclusive political process facilitated by the United Nations.

The Pakistani diplomat warned that further escalation could worsen the humanitarian situation in Yemen and called on all parties to avoid steps that may heighten tensions.

He also called for the immediate and unconditional release of detained United Nations personnel, humanitarian workers and diplomatic staff.

“Pakistan remains firmly committed to promoting dialogue, diplomacy and regional de-escalation,” Jadoon said.

He added that Pakistan would continue supporting sincere efforts aimed at peace, stability and mutual understanding in the region.
