UNITED NATIONS: Russian strikes on energy infrastructure in Ukraine have created a worrisome situation in the war-torn country, the United Nations (UN) aid chief Martin Griffiths told the UN Security Council, warning the situation could create a humanitarian crisis as millions of citizens are without heat when temperatures drop.
The systematic Russian attacks on Ukraine energy infrastructure for months have damaged nearly half of the power supply system in the country.
Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs said that the destruction needed more support from the international community to the war-torn country.
Millions of people are without electricity, heat, and water, and temperatures are expected to drop below -20 degrees Celsius.
Below-zero temperatures likely to displace Ukraine
He warned that due to severe circumstances, more people were facing the risk of displacing while fourteen million people have already been forced to leave their homes. Over 7.8 million people have fled the country while 6.5 million have been displaced within the ukraine since the war started in February.
