WASHINGTON: The world is facing the worst food crisis due to the war in Ukraine, climate change, and the pandemic.

CNN reported that the issue of the food crisis will be raised at World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davis, Switzerland.

Head of the United Nations World Food Programme David Beasley said that the meeting of the World Economic Forum is being held at a crucial time.

The US special envoy for global food security Cary Fowler said that conflict, Covid 19, the challenge of climate change, and high fuel prices are the major causes of the food crisis in the world.

The envoy told CNN that the year 2023 would be a tough year. Flower said that the food crisis cannot be resolved without providing aid food.

Abby Maxman, CEO of Oxfam America said that the war in Ukraine has negatively affected world food prices.  Abby Maxman said that the conflict has also affected supply chains worldwide.

Ukraine supplies about 45 million metric tons of grain to the world market annually and is the world’s major exporter of sunflower oil. Russia and Ukraine accounted for about one-quarter of world wheat exports in 2019.

As Russian forces blockaded Ukraine’s ports, the stressed food system was dealt another tremor.
