ISLAMABAD: Former Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi has criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) over sweeping changes to the Test squad and coaching staff ahead of the third Test against England.
Afridi questioned the decision to bring T20 specialists into the red-ball squad while also expressing surprise over the removal of head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed after only five Tests.

“Not sure what is the logic or reasoning behind this decision! Even the replacements make no sense — T20 players have been included for a Test match in England?” Afridi wrote on X.

The former all-rounder also described Sarfaraz’s removal as a shocking decision by a selection committee featuring several experienced members.
“Why has the coach been axed after 5 Test matches?” Afridi questioned.

Sarfaraz was appointed Pakistan’s red-ball head coach on April 18. His first assignment was a two-Test tour of Bangladesh, where Pakistan suffered a 2-0 series defeat.
Pakistan subsequently drew their two-match Test series against the West Indies 1-1 before falling 2-0 behind in the ongoing England series.
PCB Makes Major Changes for England Test
Following the disappointing results, the PCB made significant changes ahead of the third and final Test in Birmingham.
Seven players were released and replacements called up, while Sarfaraz and fast-bowling coach Umar Gul were also removed from their roles.
White-ball head coach Mike Hesson and bowling coach Ashley Noffke will take charge for the final Test, scheduled at Edgbaston from September 9 to 13.
