RIYADH: The Saudi Cabinet on Tuesday reiterated the Kingdom’s support for Turkiye after a devastating quake struck its southern region.
According to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the Cabinet said it was “following developments of the humanitarian situation following the massive earthquake, and the Kingdom’s efforts to minimize its effects on the peoples of Turkiye and Syria, through participating in rescue work and sending aid that includes food, medical and shelter materials.”
Over 158,000 people have evacuated the vast swathe of southern Turkiye hit by the earthquake, one of the deadliest tremors in the region’s modern history.
Over 37,000 people died in quake-hit Turkiye and Syria
The calamity, with a combined death toll in Turkiye and neighboring Syria exceeding 37,000, has destroyed whole cities in both neighbouring countries, leaving survivors homeless in the freezing temperature, at times sleeping on piles of rubble.
So far, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has sent eight aircrafts with aid to help those affected by the devastating earthquake in Turkiye and Syria.
