RIYADH: Saudi Arabia has condemned Colombia’s decision to open an embassy in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry, in a statement on Wednesday, said this move constitutes a flagrant violation of international law and relevant international legitimacy resolutions, and directly infringes upon the legal and historical status of the occupied city of Jerusalem.

The Kingdom emphasised that this step contradicts the established international position regarding the legal and historical status of Jerusalem.

The Saudi Foreign Ministry reiterated its call to the international community—including the Security Council and all concerned parties—to uphold their legal and moral responsibilities and to take urgent action to halt the illegal Israeli policies aimed at imposing a new reality by force and undermining prospects for achieving a just and lasting peace.

In August this year, Saudi Arabia also condemned Colombia’s recognition of Israel’s sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, describing the move as contrary to international law and relevant resolutions of international legitimacy.

The Kingdom affirmed that this recognition explicitly contravenes the relevant United Nations resolutions, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 497, issued in 1981, which deemed Israel’s imposition of its laws, jurisdiction, and administration over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights null and void, with no legal effect, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.

The Kingdom stressed that such positions do not contribute to achieving peace; rather, they diverge from the long-standing international stance on the occupied Syrian Golan Heights, reinforce the logic of imposing faits accomplis, and undermine efforts aimed at achieving peace in the region.
