ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces killed five terrorists affiliated with the Indian proxy, Fitna al-Hindustan, during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in Balochistan’s Washuk district, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the military’s media wing, the operation was conducted on the night of October 12-13 following reports about the presence of terrorists in the area.

“During the conduct of the operation, a terrorist hideout was busted by security forces through swift and decisive action,” the ISPR said.

The statement added that a large cache of weapons, ammunition and explosives had also been recovered during the operation. Sanitisation operations are under way to eliminate any other India-sponsored terrorists found in the area, the ISPR said.

The military said security forces and law enforcement agencies would continue operations at full pace under the vision of Azm-e-Istehkam, approved by the Federal Apex Committee on the National Action Plan, to eliminate foreign-sponsored and foreign-backed terrorism from the country.

Pakistan has witnessed a sharp rise in terrorist attacks, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, since the Afghan Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021.

The country recorded its highest monthly number of terrorist attacks in 12 years in September 2026, according to data compiled by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS), an Islamabad-based independent think tank.

The data showed that 225 terrorist attacks were recorded nationwide in September, compared with 199 in August, representing an increase of 13 per cent. The number of attacks rose for the third consecutive month.

Islamabad has repeatedly urged Kabul to prevent its territory from being used by terrorist organisations to launch attacks inside Pakistan.

Pakistan maintains that the Afghan Taliban authorities have failed to take effective action against groups responsible for attacks on Pakistani security forces and civilians.
