PARIS: Pakistan’s Muhammad Zubair has won the Tekken 8 title at the Esports World Cup 2026 after defeating South Korea’s LowHigh 5-0 in a commanding grand-final victory in Paris.
Zubair, who competes under the name AG M. Zubair, secured the championship after an impressive run through the 32-player tournament, held from August 5 to 8 at Expo Porte de Versailles.
The victory earned Zubair a $250,000 cash prize and 1,000 Club Championship points.

The Pakistani player produced a dominant performance in the final, winning all five games against LowHigh, one of the established names in the international Tekken scene.
The title marks the biggest achievement of Zubair’s career and caps a remarkable rise on the international competitive circuit.
Zubair defeats Arslan Ash
Zubair reached the grand final after edging compatriot and eight-time Evolution Championship Series (EVO) winner Arslan Ash 5-4 in a closely fought semi-final on Saturday.
The victory over Ash was one of the defining moments of Zubair’s title-winning campaign.
Ash, who had won the 2026 EVO tournament in Las Vegas two months earlier, finished fourth after losing to Australia’s Yagami in the third-place match.
Yagami finished third in the tournament, while LowHigh took second place.
LowHigh received $130,000, Yagami earned $70,000 and Ash took home $50,000.
Rapid rise on international stage
Zubair’s achievement is particularly notable given his relatively limited experience at the highest level of international Tekken competition.
According to the Esports World Cup, Zubair made his international debut only two months before the tournament, when he was eliminated in the pools.
He returned to Paris through the Last Chance Qualifier and fought his way back into contention before progressing through the EWC qualification route.
He then defeated several experienced international players on his way to the title, culminating in his 5-0 victory over LowHigh in the final.
Following his triumph, the Esports World Cup celebrated the Pakistani player’s unexpected rise with a post on social media.
“He came out of nowhere and took the crown!” the EWC said in the caption.
Another milestone for Pakistan
Zubair’s victory adds to Pakistan’s growing reputation as a major force in competitive Tekken.
Pakistani players have established a strong presence in the international fighting-game scene, with Arslan Ash and Atif Butt among the country’s best-known competitors.
Zubair’s title further strengthens that reputation, particularly given the manner of his run. After returning through the Last Chance Qualifier, he overcame established players before producing an emphatic performance in the championship match.
The official Tekken esports database lists the champion as Khawaja Muhammad Zubair, who competes as AG M. Zubair. His 2026 season has also included participation in the Tekken World Tour.
Tekken 8 was among the games featured at the Esports World Cup, alongside titles including Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, League of Legends, Street Fighter and Valorant.
