US and Pakistan Sign Five-Year Agreement to Expand Fulbright and Educational Exchange Programmes

Decade-spanning partnership renewed as USEFP and HEC commit to expanding higher education opportunities and research collaboration.

ISLAMABAD: United States and Pakistan have signed a five-year agreement to expand educational exchange programmes, including the prestigious Fulbright scholarship, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and empowering the next generation of Pakistani leaders, scholars, and professionals.

Landmark agreement signed in Islamabad

The agreement was signed by USEFP Executive Director Dr. Peter Moran and HEC Executive Director Professor Dr. Zia Ul Haq at USEFP headquarters in Islamabad.

The partnership will enable Pakistani students and scholars to access the American education system while facilitating American researchers and professionals to collaborate on innovative ventures in Pakistan across sectors including business, public health, and scientific research.

Leaders hail transformative partnership

USEFP Executive Director Dr. Peter Moran stated, “USEFP-administered programmes empower participants to develop skills and practical knowledge that directly benefit Pakistan’s development across all sectors of society.”

HEC Executive Director Professor Dr. Zia Ul Haq added, “This milestone agreement underscores our shared vision of empowering Pakistani scholars and Higher education institutions that will serve our country for generations to come.”

75 years of educational bridge-building

The Fulbright Programme, administered in Pakistan by USEFP, remains the flagship scholarship initiative of the U.S. government. Since its establishment in 1950, USEFP has enabled more than 9,000 Pakistanis and nearly 1,000 Americans to enhance their professional expertise, conduct research, and build lasting cross-cultural connections.

USEFP is a bi-national commission established by the governments of the United States and Pakistan to promote mutual understanding through educational exchange.
