ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar on Wednesday visited the Embassy of Iran in Islamabad, where he conveyed condolences on behalf of the Government and people of Pakistan over the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Ishaq Dar also signed the condolence book on the martyrdom of the Supreme Leader.

“He conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family and the Iranian nation, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s solidarity with the brotherly people of Iran in this moment of immense national grief,” a Foreign Office statement said.

On Saturday morning, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale joint military operation against Iran, killing Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, some of the leader’s family members, top military commanders and civilians.

In response, Iran has launched multiple waves of missile and drone attacks targeting Israeli territory and US military bases across the region, marking a significant escalation in tensions and drawing widespread international concern about the potential for broader conflict.

Earlier, the United States vowed to continue its war against Iran for “as long as needed,” as fighting spread across the Middle East, oil prices climbed, and global markets tumbled.

US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth said Washington was “winning, decisively” and had the capacity to sustain the conflict.

“Our air defences and that of our allies have plenty of runway. We can sustain this fight easily for as long as we need to,” Hegseth told a press conference at the Pentagon. He declined to set a timeline for the campaign.
