ISLAMABAD: Iranian President Dr. Masoud Pezeshkian is scheduled to undertake an official visit to Pakistan on June 23, Tuesday in what diplomatic sources describe as a significant gesture of appreciation for Islamabad’s pivotal role in facilitating the recent peace process that helped defuse tensions in the Middle East and paved the way for dialogue between Iran and the United States.

Visit Follows Islamabad Peace Deal

The visit comes days after the successful conclusion of intensive diplomatic efforts led by Pakistan, which culminated in the Islamabad Peace Deal and the subsequent launch of a broader regional reconciliation process.

President Pezeshkian’s trip is being viewed as a reflection of Tehran’s recognition of Pakistan’s constructive diplomacy and its role as a credible mediator in regional affairs.

High-Level Meetings in Islamabad

During his visit, the Iranian President will hold separate meetings with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari. The high-level engagements are expected to focus on bilateral relations, regional security, economic cooperation, energy connectivity, and the implementation of understandings reached during recent diplomatic initiatives aimed at restoring stability in the Middle East.

Diplomatic sources said President Pezeshkian will personally convey the gratitude of the Iranian supreme leader for Pakistan’s efforts in facilitating dialogue and helping create an environment conducive to peaceful negotiations.

The Iranian President is also expected to discuss avenues for strengthening cooperation between the two neighboring countries in trade, investment, border management, and regional connectivity projects.

Pakistan’s Commitment to Regional Peace

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is expected to reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, dialogue, and diplomacy as the preferred means of resolving conflicts.

The Prime Minister is also likely to reiterate Islamabad’s support for the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and economic development of all countries in the region.

State Banquet for Iranian President

President Asif Ali Zardari will host a state banquet in honour of President Pezeshkian, underscoring the importance Pakistan attaches to its relationship with Iran.

Senior government officials, cabinet members, parliamentary leaders, diplomats, and prominent personalities are expected to attend the banquet.

Strengthening Pakistan-Iran Relations

The visit is expected to further strengthen Pakistan-Iran relations at a time when both countries are seeking greater regional cooperation and economic integration.

Observers believe the trip will also send a positive signal to the international community regarding the growing role of diplomacy in addressing regional challenges.

Follow-Up to High-Level Contacts

President Pezeshkian’s visit follows a series of high-level contacts between Islamabad and Tehran, including a recent telephone conversation between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the Iranian President after the signing of the Islamabad Peace Deal.

During that conversation, both leaders expressed satisfaction over the progress achieved through diplomatic engagement and reaffirmed their commitment to lasting peace and stability in the region.

Officials in Islamabad view the visit as another milestone in Pakistan’s emerging diplomatic profile following its active role in promoting dialogue among key regional and international stakeholders.

The trip is expected to result in renewed commitments to bilateral cooperation and further coordination on regional peace initiatives.
